Services We Provide

Our clinical work in pediatric rehabilitation focuses on the child as to improve the quality of life (for patient and family) and to address the challenges of children and special needs. Through contract services, inpatient, outpatient and consultative resources are available. In addition to medical management, there is expertise in EMG/NCS (electromyography and nerve conduction studies), Botulinum Toxin injections, Phenol/Alcohol nerve blocks, Intrathecal Medication Pump management to treat spasticity and Injections to treat musculoskeletal pathology. Pediatric Rehabilitation services are a strong support to Oncological, Orthopedic, Neurological, Neurosurgical and Rheumatological programs. In addition, clinical services are accessible to even able-bodied children via sports pre-participation physicals and concussion evaluations. Rehabilitation is crucial for children in their growth and development into adulthood and independence. In pediatric rehabilitation children with special needs presents unique challenges. Our goal is to help create programs that improve the child’s function and reduce the need for unnecessary surgeries and procedures.


Maurice Sholas, MD, PhD, is one of less than 200 physicians board certified in Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine. He has over 10 years as the Principle for Sholas Medical Consulting. In addition to this entrepreneurial experience, he has a solid background as a Medical Executive. Dr. Sholas served as medical and practice director for Rehab Services with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta; providing administrative and clinical coverage for the largest inpatient pediatric rehabilitation unit in the United States as well as several inpatient, outpatient, procedural and consultative initiatives. He was a clinical assistant professor at both Emory School of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine. Prior to that experience, Dr. Sholas was the first practitioner of Pediatric Rehabilitation in the state of Louisiana where he was on faculty at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans and based at Children’s Hospital of New Orleans. His training represents a tour of the top academic institutions in the country. He was the Rotary One Clinical Fellow in Pediatric Rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Physiatry) at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Sholas received an MD and a PhD (Neuroscience) from Harvard Medical School. His higher education began at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA where he graduated cum laude in Biology as a part of the Honors College. Dr. Maurice Sholas’ clinical focus is pediatric rehabilitation; a specialty that provides care for children with acquired or congenital physical disabilities. His administrative focus is on program creation and clinical operations enhancement. Thus, whether clinical or administrative, he is focused on optimizing function. His exceptional business acumen bridges academic and community-based medicine to create success stories for his patients and health care facilities. It is truly rare to have an active clinician that also speaks the language of business, but that combination is ideal as the current health care environment continues to evolve. His advocacy for equality is a signature quality that also separates Dr. Maurice Sholas from more typical physicians. He believes that everyone has a contribution to make. Only through advocacy, diversity and inclusion can medical innovation have the scope and effect needed to improve things for all. Dr. Sholas is an active member of the Alumni Associations representing his alma matters, the National Medical Association and the American Medical Association where he served as Chairman of the Resident and Fellow section (2003-2004). He is also concerned citizen as he is active in his community, for he believes in building relationships and enhancing the communities where he lives and works. As a mother of four boys, it gives me great comfort that if I were ever to need Dr. Sholas’ services, I would have every comfort in the world that they were in the absolute best of hands – implicit trust.
